Effect of nozzle curvature on supersonic gas jets used in laser–plasma acceleration

چکیده

Supersonic gas jets produced by converging–diverging nozzles are commonly used as targets for laser–plasma acceleration (LPA) experiments. A major point of interest these is the density at region interaction where laser ionizes plume to create a plasma, providing structure. Tuning profiles this crucial LPA optimization. “flat-top” profile desired line control propagation and high-energy electron acceleration, while short high-density often preferred lower-energy tightly focused interactions. particular design parameter curvature nozzle's diverging section. We examine three nozzle designs with different curvatures: concave “bell,” straight conical, convex “trumpet” nozzles. demonstrate that mm-scale axisymmetric that, distances from exit, significantly impacts shock formation resulting jet field and, therefore, an essential in design. show bell able produce regions higher densities. find trumpet nozzle, similar nozzles, can flat-top if optimized correctly flatter cost slightly wider edges. An optimization procedure derived compared process. present results computational fluid dynamics simulations performed program ANSYS Fluent verify them experimentally using neutral interferometry.

Investigating the Effects of Inlet Conditions and Nozzle Geometry on the Performance of Supersonic Separator Used for Natural Gas Dehumidification

Supersonic separators have found extensive applications in dehumidification of natural gases since 2003. Unlike previous studies, which have investigated the inlet conditions and nozzle geometry of supersonic separators for pure fluids, the present study employed a combination of momentum, heat, and mass transfer equations along with Virial equation of state (EOS) to inspect the effect of inlet...

Curvature Effect in Structured Grb Jets

We study the influence of jet structure on the curvature effect in a GRB-lightcurve. Using a simple model of jet emissivity, we numerically calculate lightcurves for a short flash from a relativistic outflow having various profiles of the Lorentz factor and outflowing energy density (gaussian, core+powerlaw). We find that for “on-beam” viewing geometry, with the line of sight passing through th...

Unsteady Phenomena in Supersonic Nozzle Flow Separation

This work considers the instability of the jet plume from an overexpanded, shockcontaining convergent-divergent nozzle and attempts to correlate this instability to internal shock-induced separation phenomena. Time resolved wall pressure measurements and Pitot measurements are used as primary diagnostics. For the conditions of this study flow separation is asymmetric resulting in a large separa...
